Before we explore some of the personality types you’re about to run into, you should know about the types of lava you’re going to encounter.

Lava Types

  • Rhyolite
  • Dacite
  • Andesite
  • Basalt
  • Komatiite

Temperatures

Hottest Eruption Temperatures:  Komatiite and Basalt

Middle Ground: Andesite

Lowest Eruption Temperatures: Rhyolite and Dacite

Viscosity

Highest Viscocity (aka – flows as well as peanut butter): Rhyolite and Dacite

Middle Ground: Andesite

Lowest Viscosity (aka – flows like honey): Basalt and Komatiite
